Last Saturday afternoon, I scrapped my planned sermon because of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. In its place I wrote a message about (a) what Christians should think about political violence in American life, and (b) what they can do about it. I urged the congregation to always be centered on God’s wisdom, rather than the poison from partisan media and other influences (from both sides of the aisle). I chose Proverbs 8 as my text.
I begin by surveying the sad and sordid history of attempted and successful assassinations against American Presidents, then segued into Proverbs 8, and then closed.
